  1. Hi Al, have you got any interesting ideas for process writing classes? I’m going to be doing process writing with both my groups, pre-int and pre-advanced and any ideas would be welcome.

    • Hi Rick! Two thoughts for you:

      1. A really nice low-stress starter for your pre-ints would be speed writing – get them to write for 2 mins about your topic: just their immediate reactions to it so they can get the ideas flowing – tell them that they are allowed to write a word / phrase in Spanish if they can’t think of it in English, so long as they just keep writing! I know your guys can be shy and worried about producing anything, so try this.

      2. Pre-advanced: for an exam level, I always try to do some genre analysis of the text they need to produce – I’ll send you an analysis form. Then a debate – your adolescents will love it: get them planning for five mins with your motion (“Learning English by coming to IH is the only way to learn”) and have them debate in twos for one min only. Keep a track of who wins each head-to-head!

By this time they should have plenty of ideas for their piece of writing (works especially well for articles/essays) and they can write their intros in groups and help each other.

      Alastair
